Fabric Window Valentines: How to

DSC_0057.jpg

Make a 1 3/4-inch heart shaped template out of scrap paper. Click here to see this step in more detail.

Fold a card in half and center the template.

Trace the template.

Cut out the heart shape from the card.

Cut a roughly 2-inch square piece of fabric. Iron it if it's wrinkled.

Working on the inside of the card, place the fabric right side up on top of the cut out.

Tape the fabric down making sure that it covers the heart cut out entirely.

Working from the outside of the card with an embroidery needle and contrasting embroidery thread make a running stitch around the edge of the heart shape.

Once you've gotten all the way around tie and snip your ends then tape them down.

All Done!

Very Sweet. Do you hide the back side of the heart with the taped down ends and unfinished edges of fabric with something?

These are lovely. The last time I tried to embroider directly on cardstock, it was difficult and the results only so-so, but I bet a simple running stitch would be easier and look better.

I love these. I am a huge fan of hearts and love to put them on everything. This was a nice way to do cards, which I am also fond of making. Will definitely copy your idea one day:) Nice blog!

I fell in love with these as soon as I laid eyes on them. Thanks for such a great little project -- I made mine today, just in time for v-day! (I hope it's alright, mine look the same, your design was just too cute to change!)

I'm participating in a card swap with some friends & was looking for a cute, easy idea. I loved these when I saw them! Very unique and very versitile.....you can use them for more than just Valentine's Day. My one little problem was the stiching on card stock. I had to be careful that I didn't rip the paper, which I did on a couple of them. Maybe my needle was too large? Also, I think next time I may use thicker cardstock.....it will hold up better during the stiching. They were fun and I can't wait to share them!
