Fourth of July BBQ Apron: Materials

Hi all. I am ditching a pattern I had for a reversible apron for this one! So, I already have two coordinating quilt weight fabrics and a third for the tie. I am wondering if, in lieu of the upholstery weight fabric, I should first stitch the two quilt weight fabrics together and treat them as one for this pattern. It won't be meant to be reversible, but it will have a fun lining. Will that work? Happy stiching to all. Anne
