Molly's Sketchbook: Alabama Chanin Market Bag Kit

Recently I reviewed the great new book by Natalie Chanin, Alabama Studio Style, which got me really excited to try one of the projects.  We asked the folks at Natalie's company Alabama Chanin if they would put together a kit for one of the projects for the book for Purl Soho customers and we're so happy that they agreed to make us these fabulous Market Bag Kits. They contain everything you'll need to make your own bag, right down to the thread!

Of the two kits they created I decided to make the reverse applique bag because I was really interested in learning the unique reverse applique technique. Once I learned the technique I was totally hooked, I actually didn't want to stop working on it even after both sides of the bag were done! I think this bag would make a wonderful present for a close friend or family member because so much care and love goes into making it, plus it's so beautiful.  Below is photo of the black-grey bag.

If you'd like to make your own you can find the reverse applique bag here, or you can find the black and grey bag here. Once you get your kit you can put it together along with me by visiting my Alabama Chanin Market Bag Project Journal.

Happy Hand Sewing!-- Molly

These are so beautiful. I especially love the blue and white bag. How long did it take you to make?
