Molly's Sketchbook: Strawberry Pillows

In a burst of summer inspiration a few weeks ago Joelle had the idea to make some large strawberry shaped pillows and I volunteered to design the pattern, it seemed like such a lovely warm weather project. At around the same time we got the lovely Kiyohara Organic Woven Dots fabric from Japan which seemed perfect for the task. This beautiful fabric is so soft and it's also reverisble; pink with white dots on one side and white with pink dots on the other. The pink and red colorways were so subtle and pretty I knew they'd make wonderful strawberries. I decided to make the leaves and stems in another new fabric, Carr Textiles Organic Cotton Duck which is a heavy weight canvas and comes in a pretty range of colors. I thougth it would be great if my strawberries were totally organic!
These pillows are easy and quick to make, a perfect end of summer project! The best thing about them is seeing other people's reactions to them. Everyone who sees them wants to touch them, squeeze them, and carry them around. There is something about their large size (about 15-inches high) that just makes people smile!
