Wedding Washcloths - Materials

WWmaterials2.jpg

  • Blue Sky Alpaca's Skinny Cotton, 100% organically grown cotton. 1 skein makes 2 washcloths. The colors here are Organic Clay 31, Pink 305 and Birch 30 (The Clay and the Birch are naturally occurring colors, in other words, undyed).
  • US #5 knitting needles, straight or circular.
  • A small crochet hook, like a size "E".

(This background fabric is from Moda's Net of Jewels line, designed by Joelle Hoverson. The color is "Diamond".)

What is the biggest needle size you could feasibly use for this? I am a new knitter and find skinny needles kind of hard to use.

If the weave would be too loose with bigger needles, could you recommend a thicker yarn for bigger needles that is equally nice?

Thanks!

Hi Susan,

It depends a lot on if you're a tight or a loose knitter, but my best guess would be that with the Skinny Cotton you could go up to a US size 6. If that still sounds too small or if you find that the knitting is too loose, then I would recommend using Blue Sky Cotton (http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/721-Blue-Sky-Blue-Sky-Cotton) and a US #9 needle. With the Blue Sky Cotton your washcloths would be a little less crisp, but would be super soft and cuddly!

Thanks for your question and good luck!
